The Hebrew Alphabet

Can you guess how many letters are in the Hebrew alphabet? *ding ding ding* If you guessed 27, you're correct! Was it really a surprise, though?

Today is Sunday, AKA I didn't write yesterday at all. I'm going to blame that on the fact I had to take notes over the entire first chapter in my government textbook. Seriously, it took me HOURS to take all eight pages (front and back) of those notes. I'm actually pretty good at note-taking. My handwriting is extremely legible, and I've a dash-and-arrow system that is straightforward. I just used these wonderful skills to take notes for my writing course (only three-and-a-half pages, but it's a Sunday night). We're learning about obedience, and had to take notes over an essay a professor wrote about one of his experiments. This particular experiment called for only a single subject per trial, and the subject acted as the "teacher." (One thing I learned from the textbook-- the punctuation DOES go inside in the quotation mark, even if it wasn't part of the original quote.) The experimenters hire actors to play the part of the "learner," who is read a list of words with pairs by the teacher. They then have to match the words with the pairs; an incorrect answer will result in a shock, the voltage of which increases with the amount of incorrect answers. The experimenter would instruct the teacher to shock the learner (who wasn't actually shocked at all), and to turn it up higher every once in a while, until the learner was literally screaming. The teacher would, of course, question the morality of this, but after being assured the experimenter would assume responsibility, should the learner suffer from medical issues. It was interesting to read about the extent to which people would shock others, just because they were told to by someone who they believed was an authority figure.

Sorry if all the boring psychology talk is getting to you, but this is the kind of stuff I'm interested in. I want to learn about the patterns and responses the human brain has. That's why I've been doubting my career path lately. I also found out that I'm late for joining the gold team. They've already had meets. I'm so screwed. I really don't want to take another gym class, but I don't know what I can do at this point. Maybe I could have my doctor write me a note? Something about asthma? Even though my asthma problem is so small...

I'm going to go fix up my lunch for tomorrow, assuming we have food other than PopTarts I can put in my lunch. Alrightyroo Magoo :)
